GCBR appoint Agri Ambassador

The GCBR  recently appointed our first ambassador when Mr Gerrit Van Rensburg accepted the appointment as the Agri  Ambassador.  When he was introduced to the members at the Members'meeting in Barrydale on 16 August 2016. Gerrit accepted the challenge to convey the message of the GCBR wherever the opportunity arises.

Farming has been in Gerrit's blood all his life. He served as minister of Agriculture in the Cabinet of the Western Cape Government from June 1999 to December 2001. In 2000 the portfolios of Property Management and Works were also added.

From 2009 to 2014 he served as minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. Under his leadership the Department of Agriculture Western Cape was designated by SAIGA as the best department in South Africa for three consecutive years.

Currently he resides in Hartenbos and is the chairperson of AgriMega NPC.

Gerrit made the valid point that communities must understand that farmers need to make profits and must be allowed to do so.  It is the only way in which they will be able to make contributions towards the fulfilment of the objectives of the GCBR.
