The Trans Gouritz Cycle Race of 2018 took place over five days in May. There were 18 riders this year which was a huge improvement on the four riders in 2017 – talk about growth! The riders included a couple of very big names in MTB and Cyclocross, including Hannele Steyn and Fourie Kotze. Timing of the race was excellent as the weather was not too hot for the participants.
The partnership of the GCBR and TriSport was a winner and the teamwork to support the riders was excellent. To quote Hannele, “The hospitality and support of the people along the route was fantastic, the scenery was spectacular and all in all the event was amazing and exceeded all expectations.”
The GCBR flag was flown high by four Jobs for Carbon staff who worked as part of the backup team. They assisted in setting up and breaking down camp, served on one water point on each leg of the tour and did all they could to assist the TriSport staff.
It is with grateful thanks that the GCBR acknowledges the sponsorship of the Garden Route Casino Community Trust and Jakkalsvlei Winery in Herbertsdale.
